Bye bye democracy, Hello ‘Fairocracy’!

Democracy is the most revered form of government in the world today. I live in India, the biggest democracy in the world. Most people feel…that democracy is a fair system of government. At least it feels better than competing forms of government like monarchy and communism. The reality is that democratic governments are often plagued by populist give aways, appeasement of majority or minority, inaction due to needless debating, inflation due to perennial budget deficits, rule of mob and corruption etc. ¶ But I feel that the true purpose of democracy should be ‘fairocracy’.

God taught me mobile app development

I am a chartered accountant (similar to CPA in USA) who has developed many mobile apps, wrote India’s first book on mobile app development…way back in 2003, taught hundreds of software engineers at big MNCs and lots of budding students at colleges. ¶ Most people learn computer programming at universities. Unfortunately family circumstances coupled with Indian education system did not allow me to learn programming at a university. There is an old saying in the middle east : “The one who has no one, has God with himself”. I think that has been the case with me.

I am not afraid of Robots

These days some people in the west are very afraid of artificial intelligence (AI). People are talking about robots taking over the world…by the end of the century. Some people paint doomsday Frankenstein scenarios but I am not pessimistic. ¶ Artificial intelligence is all around us. Google is the most common AI bot that we use. Apple’s Siri is also another one which iOS users use many times. Many people use robotic vacuum cleaners in homes. Most games use AI. So AI is already living with us. ¶ I think people who are afraid of bots, generally are afraid due to 5 main reasons : ¶ They think AI bots will get more intelligent…

Nearly all of us have played ‘Snake and Ladders’. ‘Snake and Ladders’ epitomises the ups and downs of life. The game tells that life is not…linear. As children we enjoyed playing the game. As adults its great fun to play this game with children. ¶ Many of us may have played ‘Subway Surfers’. Many others would have seen people playing ‘Subway Surfers’. What ‘Law Makers’ should learn from ‘App Makers’

Laws are essential for smooth and efficient functioning of a civilised society. Laws are meant to regulate the life of citizens. Law makers…around the world are entrusted by citizens to create laws for a fair and just society. This is the theory behind law making. The practical reality is that laws are the biggest impediment to a vibrant and growing economy. Law makers continue to make laws in a manner similar to law makers of 19th century. Citizens of many countries like India have lost faith in law making and enforcement. Laws and legal system have become the biggest catalyst for corruption.

Visual thinking, apps and games can change the world

I wanted to make 2D games since childhood. I even learned programming from class 7th to make games. I also started making mobile apps in…2002. In those early days no body understood the potential of mobile apps and games. People used to think that I was doing something very niche. ¶ 2015 was a very interesting year. Finally apps became so mainstream even in countries like India that even a person earning USD 125 a month started spending hours daily using mobile apps and games. It is now hard to find people who do not know about mobile apps and games.
